When updating your bathroom space, it is well worth investing the time to get it right! It is a room that is used daily and generally by all members of the family, therefore the bathroom deserves just as much attention as any other room in the house. Some considerations to keep in mind when designing your dream bathroom:
1. Bathroom Layout
Once you have a clear vision of all the things you want to achieve within your bathroom space, you will need to start working out your floorplan.
When working through your layout, start by considering your bathroom routine and how the space can most efficiently cater to that. Always consider your current plumbing and electrical outlets, especially if working within a strict budget.
When determining the position of your vanity, things to consider are:
- Will it be positioned against the wall? If so, does it have clearance for the door/drawer to open?
- Is their ample room in front of the vanity for the door/drawer to open?
- Is it too close to a wet zone?
2. Wall Hung or Floor-standing
Wall hung vanities are the most popular style you see in new bathrooms nowadays, as it creates a cleaner and more contemporary look. Even if you have a tight/narrow bathroom space to work with, a wall hung vanity can make the room look and feel more spacious and less cluttered.
A floor-standing vanity Is a great option if you are looking for a vanity that maximises storage.
These are also perfect if needing to hide existing floor plumbing too.
3. Storage is Key
As one of the most utilised rooms in the house, the bathroom needs to be tidy and organised. Think about who will be using the bathroom, what items they use, and how big are these items!
Nothing ruins the look of your dream bathroom than a hair dryer left on the vanity benchtop.
If more storage is required, consider a mirrored cabinet as opposed to just a mirror. This will add more storage within the room, especially for the ‘little’ items like skincare, etc.
